Tent pegging

Posted on Mar 07 in Traditionsby PakistanVoicesPrintText Resizer Text Resizer

Tent pegging, widely accepted to have originated in India through the British Cavalry, is popular today throughout Asia and in England, Australia and South Africa. The specific game of tent pegging has a mounted horseman riding at a gallop and using a sword or a lance to pierce, pick up, and carry away a small ground target (a symbolic tent peg) or a series of small ground targets. In Pakistan the game has a popular following in Punjab where riders wear colourful turbans and outfits and showcase their skills amid the sound of traditional music. Although it has become difficult for many renowned tent-peggers to keep horses on their crumbling resources, sponsorship from private and public corners is helpful. -Photo by APP from Chiniot, Pakistan
